One of the main trajectories for ONE WITH THE WHALE has always been to present community screenings in Alaska Native Villages followed by ‘fireside chats’. The tour will start in Gambell, then travel to the other whaling villages in Alaska, followed by Villages throughout the mainland.
One of our producers told us that after screening ONE WITH THE WHALEwith her father she was able to discuss issues with him that were previously unapproachable. It is in this spirit that we hope to engage communities in dialogues about subject matter that is often difficult to broach but must be tackled in order to provide, healing, hope and support.
These screenings must be free. This is key so that everyone in the community is welcome and no one is excluded.
We are now beginning to receive requests for ONE WITH THE WHALEto be shown in Indigenous spaces in the lower 48, where the shared experiences and impacts of colonization and climate change are similar. So after the tour of Alaskan Native villages, OWTW screening tour will head south.
